What is a Selfquake?
You spent years getting good at your job. Being good at it became part of who you are.
Now AI can do some of that work in minutes. Suddenly, what you're good at seems to be worth less. At work, and in your own head.
A Selfquake is a loss of identity, like an earthquake, except the ground that moves is who you are.
It happens in 5 stages
Which one are you? Grace will tell you.
Sediment
Your job has become a big part of who you are. AI hasn't touched it yet.
Fault line
You've seen AI do part of your job well. It shook you a little, and you've kept it to yourself.
Quake
Other people have noticed too. You're asked less, listened to less, or the job is gone.
Aftershocks
You're living with it: fighting it, pretending you're fine, or feeling sad about a job you still have.
New ground
You understand what's happening, and you're starting to feel curious about what comes next.

Who's behind this
Alex Dogliotti, PhD
Alex sets off Selfquakes. It's part of his job.
As a COO, he decides how AI comes into the work, which jobs change, and which skills are worth less.
But make no mistake: his own skills are worth less too.
He knows a Selfquake from both sides, the one who sets it off and the one who has to live through it. Out there, millions of people feel the same ground moving, mostly without a word for it. Selfquake is his attempt to give them one, and a map to find where they stand.
He holds a PhD in sociology and wrote Replaced by AI (2025). On stages and on podcasts, he argues that as AI absorbs more of our work, the job that matters most is deciding what must stay human.
